Pakistan's coronavirus positivity rate stands at 8.3%; 5,395 new infections reported during the past 24 hours
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported 118 new deaths from coronavirus on Thursday, rising the national tally to 15,872 as the country tightens restrictions to curb the spread of the third wave of pandemic which has wreaked havoc in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) stats showed over 5,395 new coronavirus infections were reported across the country after64,685 tests were conducted during the past 24 hours. The country has conducted its highest tests in a single day to date.

The new cases take the nationwide tally of coronavirus cases to 739,818 while 646,652 coronavirus patients have recovered from the virus.
The current critical cases of the country are recorded at 4,276.

According to NCOC data, about 5,106 patients are admitted to 630 hospitals across the country.
A day earlier, the coronavirus monitoring body issued a set of new coronavirus guidelines in order to mitigate the adverse effects of the virus during Ramadan.
Given the alarming surge in coronavirus cases, the forum decided to implement “broader lockdowns”, with stringent enforcement protocols where no mobility will be allowed except in emergency situations.
Saturdays and Sundays will be observed as closed days at the national level, read the notification issued by the coronavirus monitoring body.
