ISLAMABAD: Tarnol Police Islamabad have seized a huge quantity of wine from a truck during special checking at `Tarnol Chowk' which was being smuggled to Islamabad, and arrested three persons, a police spokesman said here Thursday.

On a tip off regarding an attempt to smuggle wine through a truck, Tarnol Police enhanced checking and a special team was constituted supervised by SHO Tarnol Fazal ur Rehman including Sub-Inspector Ghulam Shabbir, ASI Abdul Ghafoor, Head Constable Tahir Abbass. This team stopped a truck (RIK-257) at police picket near Tarnol Chowk on GT Road.

A complete search of the truck was conducted and police recovered 7200 bottles of wine of various brands concealed in cartons.

Truck driver Javed Iqbal and the conductor identified as Zahoor Khan, residents of Havalian Abbottabad were also arrested.

A permit copy regarding the import of this wine to a local hotel was produced before police which was found expired. Police have impounded the truck and further investigation into matter is underway.

Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ajmal from Tarnol police nabbed a drug pusher Sartaj and recovered 1.520 kilogram hashish, while Sub-Inspector Saleem Ullah from Women Police Station nabbed Rajesh Khan in possession of ten bottles of wine.

Industrial Area Police nabbed two thieves Khan Wazeer and Izat Ullan and recovered 14 mobile phone sets from them.

ASI Haider Ali from CIA police arrested Jalil Ahmed, Adeeb, Nasir Mehmud, Babar Shehzad, Mohsin Zeb Gul Rehman and Majid in possessing of stolen items while ASI Muhammad Ali from CIA police recovered a 30 bore pistol from an accused Mohsin Zeb.
