ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has ordered provincial chief secretaries to retrieve Railways land and asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to start probe against all those named in audit report, Geo News reported.
The SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing a suo motu case about non-payment of salaries and pension to employees and workers of Pakistan Railways (PR).
The CJ remarked that the Railways would be restored at last but the corrupt will be sent to jail.
Former minister Sheikh Rasheed told the court that sub-standard oil has damaged 290 engines. The Chief Justice asked as to why the Railways is more interested in buying new ones instead of getting the old ones repaired.
The court ordered to arrange a meeting between the former minister and relevant engineers for repair of faulty engines. It was also instructed by the bench to present a forensic audit report on next hearing and detailed report on the cost of repair and fault of every engine within 10 days.
Later, the hearing was adjourned for three weeks.
