Karachi: A total of Rs.4999 million have been allocated to modernize the Fire Fighting Department of Karachi in order to tackle any emergency situation within the metropolis whereas a total of Rs2.6 billion worth development projects are underway.

Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad was apprised of the details in a high-level meeting at the Governor House on Friday.

Additional Chief Secretary Malik Israr, Principal Secretary Mumtaz-ur-Rehman, Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed, Commissioner Karachi Roshan Sheikh and other officials were present.

He directed the concerned officials to acquire more snorkels so that an emergency situation can be contained on multi-story buildings.

Meanwhile, other projects were also discussed during the meeting including construction of road, similar to Lyari Expressway, on both sides of Gujjar Nullah. The Governor termed the project of immense significance as during the rainy season, many lives get endangered.

He also stressed on the point that due to unavailability of any medical facility near the National Highway, the injured are rushed to Jinnah Hospital which eats up immense amount of precious time. He directed the official for early completion of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Complex so that the issue can be resolved.

A total of Rs.1150 million would be spent for the construction of the complex, the Governor was apprised. (PPI)
