ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Friday held the Southern Electric Power Company Limited (SEPCO) responsible for 11 of the 20 deaths from electrocution that occurred during the period of July 2019 to November 2020.
The regulatory authority imposed a fine worth Rs28 billion on the SEPCO for negligence that resulted in fatal incidents during the period under review.
According to the NEPRA investigation committee report, among the 11 fatalities, four people were SEPCO employees, while seven were civilians.
Despite the massive loss last year, the power company failed to repair the fragile transmission and distribution system due to which at least seven people were electrocuted in Karachi since Friday (September 3) as intermittent heavy showers wreaked havoc on K-Electric's infrastructure.
