Industrialists appeal Govt to launch coal gasification project

MULTAN: President Dera Ghazi Khan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DGKCCI) Khawaja Mohammad Anis Thursday appealed the government to pay attention to the coal gasificationproject proposed by renowned scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand toend gas shortage in the country.

While talking to newsmen here, he said that government should also expedite the Thar coal project.

Khawaja Anis said that government should launch the coal gasification project on a wide scale and the process should be completed on war footings to provide immediate relief to the people and energy to the domestic industry in accordance with its operational potential.

Dr Samar Mubarakmand, a member of science and technology planning commission, while talking to media had stated few days ago that coal gasification project can not only overcome gas shortage problem in the country but would also help produce electricity.

DGKCCI president said that 40 per cent of country's industrial and business community was either facing losses or on he verge of default due to energy crisis.

He also expressed concerns on continuous increase in tariff of gas and electricity which has increased the cost of production and left country's manufacturing sector uncompetitive. (APP)
