LAHORE: Shattering Asma Jehangir Group’s Noman Qureshi’s hopes, lawyers Friday elected Professional Group’s Chaudhry Zulifqar Ali as the new President of Lahore Bar Association (LBA), Geo News reported.

Zulifqar scooped up 2208, whereas Qureshi could attract 1867 votes. On the other hand at least 957 lawyers also voted in the favour of Amir Iqbal Bashart, who was also running for the slot, but to no avail.

The new LBA president, while talking to media, termed his victory as the defeat of state-sponsored elements and Babar Awan’s cohorts in the bar.

He said, now, they wouldn’t let anyone make fun of judiciary and its orders.

“We will ensure the court orders are implemented”, said Zulfiqar.

Around 11,107 LBA members exercised their right of vote to elect their office-bearers for the 2012-13.
