QUETTA: Civil society organizations have united to launch a movement to tackle violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of children in Balochistan.
The movement, which is already working in Khyber Pashtunkhwa and Punjab with name of Child Right Movement (CRM), will make efforts to address and tackle the issue of Child Rights and Child Protection in Balochistan.
The CRM Balochistan Chapter was launched in a ceremony at the Quetta Press Club which was attended by people from civil society, representatives of government departments and media.
At national level the movement was by the civil society by the name of Child Rights Movement (CRM) in Islamabad where likeminded organizations gathered and initiated the movement in 2009.
The movement is basically run by the CBOs, national as well as international NGOs. Government departments and UN bodies can join the movement as honorary members and can attend and participate in the meetings.
Addressing the launching ceremony Mohammed Imtiaz Ahmed coordinator CRM said that the organization had to its credit the successful campaigns for the ratification of Optional Protocol to the UN CRC, placement of National Commission for the Rights of the Children NCRC in the Ministry of Human Rights and many more solidarity actions with the victims of violence and abuse in different part of the country.
Muhammad Hanif Panezai Regional Manager SPARC Balochistan welcomed the launching of CRM in the province and said that the step was very much needed and timely.
He underlined the role of civil society in the movement and said that the movement would play a key role in protection and promotion of child rights. (APP)
