MULTAN: An agriculture expert has suggested that domestic gas consumers should be encouraged to set up community based bio-gas plants to meet their requirements like cooking at homes or for other domestic chores.

Qurban Sindhu told APP that a bio-gas plant prepared with a cost of Rs 100,000 was sufficient to meet the electricity and gas requirements of a family of ten members and they would no more be required to pay gas or electricity bills. The can cook food by bio-gas and can get electricity by attaching generator to it.

He said that the plant comprises two tanks of 8-10 cubicfeet to store the animal waste and utilize it to supply fuel i.ebio-gas. He said that families having five to eight cattle headscan easily get input material i.e animal waste to run their bio-gas plant.

He said that cattle pen owners can also set up big bio-gasplants to supply gas or electricity to nearby homes.

Moreover, the used animal waste, after production of bio-gas, transformed into natural fertilizers which can be sold tofarmers to earn money.

A big bio-gas plant can be sufficient to supply electricityto the village or to run flour grinding or wood cutting machines,Sindhu said. (APP)
