RAWALPINDI: The regional dress show presenting the lifestyle and cultural traditions of different provinces/regions of the country was held at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Thursday.

The aim of the event was to give students an opportunity to interact with other cultures and thus create an atmosphere of harmony and intercultural integration.

More than 50 male and female students' of different departments of the University attired in colorful dresses embroidered with traditional motifs and designs participated in the catwalk with traditional background music. The variety show included skits, parodies, plays and mimicry of singers. Famous folk love stories of Pakistan such as "Heer Ranjha", "Laila Majnu" etc. were dramatized in the show.

The final item of this event was a cultural show highlighting different colors and shades of Pakistani culture. Girls wore traditional provincial dresses to lend a colorful ending to an exciting event. The best event of the day was "Brides Catwalk", which won a great deal of applause from the audience. All the participants were looking great but Pathan group got first position, while Sindh and Modern groups got second and third positions respectively in the Dress show.

Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood Khan, Vice Chancellor, PMAS-AAUR was the chief guest on the occasion and said that the society and culture of Pakistan comprises numerous diverse cultures and ethnic group. Each province and region has its own indigenous folk culture which fully reflects in their traditional costumes, he added. He further said that this show provided an opportunity to all of us to interact the cultures of different region which will be helpful to create harmony and intercultural integration. He appreciated the efforts of Directorate of Students Affairs for organizing a beautiful event and congratulates the students for participating in it and makes it memorable.

A large number of students from university and faculty members also attended the function. Sania Nazir a participating students from Agriculture Faculty was of the view that the University has first time organized such a big festive event. "There's a lot of variation in the event and everyone is enjoying," she added. "It is really memorable. A lot of people are here in traditional dresses representing their regional cultures. I am really overwhelmed," said Seemab Kanwal a student of University.
