Police teargas, baton-charge Pasban rally

KARACHI: A Pasban rally demanding Dr Afia Siddiqui’s exoneration, who is in a US jail, clashed with riot police here leaving scores of activists injured as well as arrested including Dr Fauzia Siddiqui (Afia’s elder sister), Geo News reported.

According to details, the rally, bound for US consulate, was intercepted by riot police on Abdullah Haroon Road in the heart of Saddar area of the metropolis. Upon resistance police water-cannon, baton, and teargas squads jumped into action to disperse the ralliers.

The police held a number of activists and leaders including Dr Fauzia, but she was released on the orders of Governor Sindh Dr Isharat-ul-Ebad later.

These riots also led to mammoth traffic jams in the areas around the clash-site.
