KASUR: Dr Aseemuddin Lakhvi, independent candidate from Kasur’s NA-140 who lost to Malik Rashid Ahemd after a re-count of votes in by-polls, has filed a petition for yet another tally of ballots, Geo News reported.

Earlier, the District Returning Officer (DRO), Mansoor Ali Khan, had canceled the result after Lakhvi disputed the first re-count.

Lakhvi’s petition says, the DRO had, in writing assured the petitioner, that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would announce the results after a complete “re-count”, but it only re-counted the rejected votes to jump to conclusions.

The plea also urged the ECP to keep the result on hold until a full re-cont of ballots was conducted.

In the wake of February 25 by-polls, Lakhvi was reported to have won the contest with 47,477 votes from NA-140 Kasur-3 beating Malik Rasheed Ahmed who sweeping 47,213 votes, but according to sources, late in the night the results turned out in favour of the latter.
