Spotify users who have downloaded the app via Google Play Store will now have two payment options after a multi-year agreement between Spotify and Google has been signed, Digital Trend reported.

The agreement between the two companies allows users the choice of billing for the first time.

Users who download Spotify from Google Play Store will have the choice to pay either via Spotify’s payment system or Google Play Billing.

Google called Spotify its “natural first partner” to test the new user-choice approach to billing, the music platform being one of the biggest subscription developers with global reach.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Google to explore this approach to payment choice and opportunities for developers, users, and the entire internet ecosystem,” said Alex Norström, Spotify’s chief freemium business officer.

Google has not yet shared the list of countries that will enjoy this new feature nor has it reported any specific timeline for the execution of user-choice billing.
