Facebook Messenger users are being cautioned against messages that begin with the words “look what I found”, 7 News reported.

Scammers have recently become more active, sending deceitful messages to users, especially to the contacts of those whose accounts had been previously hacked.

“Messages seemingly coming from a Facebook friend much more likely result in clicks than messages sent by strangers,” said Leslie Sikos, a cyber security expert from Edith Cowan University,

The “look what I found” text has emojis with it followed by a link.

Clicking on the link takes the user to a webpage that asks them for their log-in credentials. Entering the details allows scammers to access sensitive information or install malware in the user’s device.

Although the scam is old, it is now resurfacing and users must stay vigilant.
