International Piracy Conference concludes
ISLAMABAD: A three-day International Piracy Conference concluded in Karachi with an aim to focus on the need of providing institutional support to the victims of pirates' attacks and their traumatized families.
The conference was participated by seafarers, scholars, maritime professionals and other stakeholders from various countries including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, USA, China, UK, and Canada, said a press release.
The event was organized by the Fazaldad Human Rights Institute Islamabad in cooperation with Dalhousie University in Canada and National Defense University of the United States and Pakistan Bahria
University.
The conference focused on the challenges faced by innocent seafarers who become victims of pirates' attacks and are sometime held hostage for months before they are ransomed.
Equally important but often forgotten is the plight of their families who also need financial and emotional support, said a statement received here.
Discussion in the conference covered a wide range of solution ranging from International and National law to recourse and most important implementation of mechanism. (APP)
