PESHAWAR: The Customs authorities have seized 112 kilograms of heroin from a car during a successful action in Nowshera district, however smugglers fled away from the scene.

According to Customs Department officials, the action has been taken after Collector MCC Peshawar received prior information that a huge consignment of narcotics would be smuggled out by certain unscrupulous elements from tribal area to other parts of the country.

On this, two teams were constituted and deployed on Peshawar-Nowshera road to keep a coordinated monitoring of the road to foil the bid.

At around 7pm on Sunday night last, the suspected grey colour Toyota car bearing registration No. LES 4271 was spotted on the main Peshawar-Nowshera road near Pabbi Bazaar coming from Peshawar was signaled to stop for search.

However, the car driver, instead of complying orders, sped away from Custom staff and was intercepted after a brief chase.

During the search of its secret cavities, the Customs staff recovered 112 kg heroin in crystal and powder form, which was packed in polythene and cloth bags.
