RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Arts Council organized a painting Competition entitled "Women and Development" among the colleges for women Rawalpindi/Islamabad to mark International Women day and recognize their contribution in the socio economic development of the country.
More than 50 students from ten colleges participated in the competition, says a statement issued by the RAC here Thursday.
The competitors painted women's contribution in the development of the country.
Some students also depicted social issues faced by Pakistan women in the society.
According to judges' decision, Sana Sagheer from Government Degree College for Women Gawalmandi secured first prize, Sidra Kanwal of Rawalpindi Arts Council got second while Amal Riaz Cheema from JSPS & College Chaklala remained third in the competition.
Naheed Manzoor who was the chief guest distributed awards among the winners.
After the distribution ceremony, she said that women's role in every field cannot be falsified.
Woman achieved her rights by her incessant struggle. She further said that empowerment of women is integral for the prosperity of any country.
"Today, Women's are contributing to the legislation of the country while in certain fields they have excelled from man. Islam guarantees rights to women."
Without economic empowerment to women our society cannot progress, Naheed Manzoor said.
She underlined the need for sending all girls to schools.
"Until women are not economically self-sufficient, the society cannot make progress," she added. (APP)
