Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences on the demise of Bilquis Bano Edhi —the wife of renowned humanitarian and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi.

Taking to Twitter, the Indian prime minister said: "My sincere condolences on the passing of Bilquis Edhi. Her life long dedication to humanitarian work touched the lives of people across the globe."

Talking about her selfless and humanitarian work, PM Modi said that people in India remember her fondly.

"May her soul rest in peace," he wrote.

Bilquis Edhi laid to rest in Karachi

Earlier today,Bilquis Edhi was laid to rest at the Mewa Shah graveyard in Karachi after Zuhr prayers.

Bilquis' funeral prayers were offered at the New Memon Masjid Kharadar shortly before her burial.

Expressing his grief over the sad demise of his mother, Faisal Edhi said he was left alone, adding that her mother gave him courage after the death of his father.

He paid tribute to Bilquis Edhi and said that she had been managing all the operations of the Edhi Foundation.
