ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Friday gave the K-Electric (KE) go-ahead to increase the power tariff by Rs1.3863 per unit for the residents of the metropolis on account of fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for February 2022.
The FCA for February 2022 will be charged with the bill of May 2022, which will be paid by all consumer categories except lifeline consumers.
KE had initially requested the regulator to charge an FCA of Rs3.452 per unit but after a hearing on April 4, NEPRA asked the utility company to charge Rs1.4 as FCA.
The Rs1.4 increase will put a burden of Rs1.8 billion on consumers, including GST.
On the other hand, Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G) requested an FCA of Rs3.2 per unit for the month of March 2022 for XWDISCOs.
The regulator had held a hearing on April 27, after which the authority approved an Rs2.8680 per unit power tariff hike.
“The FCA of March 2022 shall be charged in the billing month of May 2022 to all consumer categories of XWDISCOs, except lifeline consumers,” said NEPRA. It also added that the FCA would remain applicable for only a month and does not apply to KE consumers.
The Rs2.9 increase will put a burden of over Rs32 billion on consumers, including GST.
