LAHORE: PEPCO has warned that the duration of loadshedding may exceed 13 hours and the 740 MW being supplied to KESC may also be stopped.
PEPCO officials state that if the outstanding balance is not paid then the electricity shortfall will worsen and have asked for the immediate payment of Rs 136 billion.
According to the officials, generation has decreased in several power houses due to a lack of oil and gas. PEPCO requires 35,000 tons of oil from PSO on a daily basis and due to the financial crunch it is not even receiving 12,000 tons.
At present the electricity shortfall has exceeded 6,300 MW. Lahore and other cities of Punjab are experiencing 13 hours of loadshedding, while rural areas of the province are facing up to 20 hours of loadshedding.
