Police officer killed, 3 cops injured in firing attack

RAJANPUR: A police officer was killed and three constables were injured after kidnappers opened fire on a police party following recovery of a kidnapped girl at Hajipur, police said on Thursday.

According to details, accused Shahnawaz from Sohrani family of Hajipur and accomplices had allegedly kidnapped a girl Shazia Bibi and the matter was reported to police. The complainant also moved court and an additional sessions judge, Jampur, had directed police to recover the girl.

A joint team of PS Jampur and PS Hajipur conducted a raid at the residence of accused early Thursday in Hajipur and recovered the girl from there. While police party was escorting the girl back to Jampur, the accused opened fire that caused the death of ASI Tasawwur Hussain on the spot. Three constables Mumtaz Ahmad, Abdul Hayee and Abdul Wahid received injuries and were shifted to DHQ hospital Rajanpur.

The body of martyred police officer has been handed over to legal heirs after postmortem.

The accused fled the scene along with their family members.

Police have registered an FIR against Shahnawaz and accomplices and teams have been dispatched for their arrest.
