US protecting Chen, in talks with China

BEIJING: The overseas rights group China Aid said Saturday that Chen Guangcheng was under US "protection", with Washington and Beijing in talks over the activist, who escaped from house arrest this week.

"China Aid learned from a source close to the Chen Guangcheng situation that Chen is under US protection and high level talks are currently under way between US and Chinese officials regarding Chen's status," the group said in a statement.
