KARACHI: Hours after the full restoration of electricity supply to the city following a major power breakdown, a large part of the metropolis again plunged into darkness in the early hours of Thursday.

Affected areas of Pakistan’s financial capital, from where the power breakdown has been reported, include Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Mehmoodabad, Jamshaid Road, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Federal B Area, North Karachi and Azizabad among others.

A spokesman for K-Electric – the power distribution company for Karachi – told Geo News that ‘National Grid tripping’ has caused the major power breakdown. K-Electric teams are working to control the situation, he added.

He, however, did not give any estimated restoration time for normalcy of electric supply to the port city.

Prolonged power outages have brought hardship for the citizens of the country’s largest city as the last ten days of holy month of Ramazan leading to Eid have begun.

Restoration begins

Restoration process has begun and electricity supply has now been restored in few neighbourhoods of the city including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Malir, FB Area and Azizabad.

Meanwhile, residents of North Nazimabad, Mehmoodabad, PIB Colony and Korangi among few other areas are still experiencing the power outage.
