NEW DELHI: Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani will arrive in New Delhi on Tuesday to hold talks with his Indian counterpart Ranjan Mathai.
His visit aims to wrap up the last round of bilateral talks on trade, visa, Siachen and the Sir Creek dispute.
But crucially, India is likely to ask Pakistan to explain 26/11 handler Abu Jundal's confession on the links of JuD Chief Hafiz Saeed and the ISI to the attacks, while Pakistan would be urging India to apologize over Surjit Singh’s confession ‘RAW had sent him to Pakistan for spying.’
Jilani's first meeting will be on Tuesday with Hurriyat leaders including Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, a move which is not likely to go down well with New Delhi. On Wednesday, he will meet with Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai.
The Foreign Secretaries' meeting was to be a precursor to talks between the Indo-Pak Foreign Ministers scheduled for the latter half of July in Islamabad. But the ministerial-level talks have been postponed as the dates were clashing with the Presidential poll here. The talks are likely to take place in August, according to officials.
The Indo-Pak dialogue, which was stalled following the Mumbai terror attack in November 2008, resumed last year with both sides holding a series of meetings on the eight components under the 'Composite Dialogue' format, including terrorism, Kashmir, Siachen, Sir Creek and Trade.
