US fighter jet crashes into sea off northern Japan: report

TOKYO: A US military fighter jet crashed into the sea off northern Japan on Sunday, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported.

The F-16 jet crashed off Nemuro, some 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) north of Tokyo, at around 11:30am (0230 GMT), the network quoted the Japan Coast Guard as saying, adding no further details of the accident were available. The coast guard was not immediately available to confirm the report.
