WASHINGTON: The United States Monday slammed a wave of violence across Iraq which left 111 people dead, saying such attacks were "cowardly" and "reprehensible" during the month of Ramadan.

"We strongly condemn these attacks, which took place today... in Iraq. The targeting of innocents is always cowardly. It's particularly reprehensible during this holy month of Ramadan," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters. (AFP)
