Loadshedding impacts tailoring business

ISLAMABAD: Like other parts of the country, the prevailing loadshedding in twin cities have badly impacted the business of tailoring and majority of the tailors have refused to take orders for upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

Those, who can afford have the option to go for ready-made clothes but others are bound to depend on the busy schedules of tailors who delay their orders and demand double charges.

"I got my unstitched dresses a week before Ramazan but the tailors in local markets closed the booking of orders soon after the advent of Ramazan due to power outages", Shafaq Naz, said.

Wearing new clothes and other accessories is a source of happiness for every one on Eid but the loadshedding has spoiled this happiness, she said.

Another customer, Aslam said "I gave cloths of my children to the nearest tailor for stitching on the seventh day of Ramazan and hardly convinced him for stitching the clothes before Eid".

"I am still in doubt that either the tailor will be able to manage stitching the cloths or I have to go for ready-made clothes of my children at the last hour", he said.

Ali Nawaz who runs a tailor shop near Abpara market said the tailors stopped booking new orders since the first week of Ramazan due to the load shedding.

He said majority of the tailors cannot use generators as the expected profit they could earn is not matchable with their expenses.

It has been observed that the tailors are demanding double charges for stitching the cloths and people are willing to pay any amount for the stitching of their suits.
