Fruit vendors overcharge people

ISLAMABAD: Most of the vendors in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are selling fruits and vegetable without displaying rate list and overcharging people on their own.

Despite the fact that the prices of fruits and vegetables have decreased in the fruit market (sector I-11) as well as at weekly bazaars of the capital city.

They said the rate of weekly bazaar and open market are different due to these reason.

The shoppers appealed concerned authorities to adopt proper plan and take appropriate measures to restrict vendors from overcharging.

According to rate list issued by Capital Development Authority DMA, apples are being sold at Rs 50 to 170 per kilogram, bananas Rs 100 to Rs 140 per dozen, melons Rs 40 per kg, jaman Rs 80 per kg, Mango Rs 40 to Rs 80 per kg, apricot Rs 50 to 80 per kg and dates at Rs 200 to Rs 250 per kg.

While the prices of vegetables have decreased as tomatoes are being sold at Rs 56 per kilogram, lady finger Rs 28 per kg, potatoes Rs 110 per five kg, bitter gourd Rs 14 per kg, green peas Rs 40 per kg, turnip Rs 24 per kg, red pumpkin Rs 18 per kg, ridge gourd Rs 26 per kg, spinach (750 gram) Rs 20 and brinjal at Rs 14 per kg.

According to rate list, the prices of chicken at weekly bazaar Rs 140 while eggs 76 and egg desi at Rs 100.

It may be mentioned here that the fruit and vegetable vendors are still selling both commodities on high rates in various areas of the city by giving the reason that there was a shortage of the commodity.
