ISLAMABAD: Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Monday phoned former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and invited him to visit Kabul.

The Afghan President appreciated the diplomatic initiatives by the former prime minister in bringing Afghanistan and Pakistan closer.

Karzai said that he would meet Gilani during his visit to Pakistan and added that he could not get in touch with him earlier as he was busy in the election campaign of his son.

The Afghan President also extended Eid greetings to Gilani.

The former prime minister thanked the Afghan President for his call and said both the countries shared happiness and sorrows.

He said that Pakistan wanted a peaceful, prosperous, sovereign and independent Afghanistan. He said that the NATO and the ISAF would leave Afghanistan one day, but Pakistan and Afghanistan would carry on together as neighbours. (APP)
