LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Wednesday approved resolutions against the Parliamentary Commission for the formation of new provinces (PCNP) and for the formation of the Potohar province.

The resolutions were passed amid an uproar from the opposition as lawmakers created a ruckus by chanting slogans, banging on desks and tearing the agenda of the session.

The ruckus was created when a PPP MPA was not given the point of order to speak on the issue of the formation of new provinces.

A commission for the formation of new provinces was formed by National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza and during its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, Farhatullah Babar was elected Chairman.

The PML-N has boycotted the meetings of the commission.
