Karachi: Sindh United Party chief Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah has said on September 13
a peaceful strike will be observed across the Sindh province against the promulgation of Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance.
Addressing to a press conference at Haider Manzil, here on Monday he said a party want to trigger a civil war in Sindh. He said if any element tried to sabotage their strike, the government would be responsible for the consequences.
He said the SPLGO only facilitates two parties: MQM and PPPP. “We will not accept such ordinance that only favours two political parties instead of the people of Sindh.”
Shah claimed that government is planning for a pre-poll rigging by appointing politically-affiliated administrators before the4 general elections. He appealed to the Election Commission of Pakistan to take notice of it.
He said they are not against local government system but they will not allow any law that only a few political parties. He said they are yet to be given the complete draft of SPLGO, which suggests that something unfair is there in the controversial ordinance.
He said that they have given a peaceful call but a political party in Sindh was hatching conspiracy to suppress their strike by using unfair means. He termed it a step to trigger a civil war in Sindh. “The sitting government will be held responsible if any unwanted situation was created,” he warned.
He said the SUP hosted an all parties conference today, which was attended by the leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Pakistan Taehreek Insaf, Awami Tahreek, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Jeay Sindh Tahrek, Jeay Sindh Mahaz, Pakhtunkhuwa Awami Milli Party, Punjabi Pakhtoon Ittehad and other parties. He said they all rejected the ordinance and agreed to struggle till the withdrawal of this black law.
To a question he said they are open to hold a candid discussion on the ordinance with any party including the government.
