KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched a probe against Inspector General Sindh Police Ghulam Haider Jamali and another top-ranked officer in connection with alleged embezzlement in Shuhada (martyrs) Fund.

Incessant raids at the offices of different municipal administration of Sindh towns by the Sindh Police drew attention of the NAB, sources told Geo News on Wednesday.

The probe is launched after allegations surfaced regarding embezzlement of reportedly billions of rupees. Policemen, who died of natural causes, were allegedly declared martyred but the compensation money went into the officers’ pocket instead of the heirs.

The NAB, in a letter, has sought explanation and details from the DIG headquarters within three days. Details of police official, who were benefitted by the Shuhahda Fund between 2011 and 2014, their family and names of other beneficiaries have also been sought.

The Sindh Police has also been directed to provide complete details of their budget, special grants, investigative expenses, fuel and secret fund of the last three years.

The sources revealed that the probe is being directed at IG Ghulam Haider Jamali and recently dismissed AIG Finance Fida Shah.
