PALLEKELE: In a sensational opener in Super Eights of the World Twenty20 Cricket 2012, Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand in Super over after the match ended in a tie here at the Pallekele International Cricket stadium on Thursday

First, Sri Lanka made 13 runs in the Super over bowled by Tim Southee and then Lasith Malinga gave away only eight runs to win the match for Sri Lanka.

Earlier, New Zealand made 174-7 in their 50 overs with opener Rob Nicol scoring a career best 58. Sri Lanka needed one run off the last ball but lost their sixth wicket off the last ball with scores tied.

Tillakaratne Dilshan made 76 while Rob Nicol hit a career best 58 for New Zealand.
