KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has signed its fifth Memorandum of Understanding under its Social Investment Program with, Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), to provide free electricity to its three dialysis centers in the city.
According to a statement of KESC, the utility has also undertook to assign 2.4 Mega Watts new connection to SIUT’s main complex, which is currently on self generation, and 50 KW for its Primary Health and Dialysis center at Education city.
The investment for these new, major power connections would be undertaken by KESC, and would not be charging any service fee, new connection, or any other charges.
The Memorandum was signed by Mr. Tabish Gauhar, CEO of KESC, and Dr. Adeebul Hassan Rizvi, founder and Chairman, Board of Trustees, SIUT.
KESC would provide relief up to 100 per cent billed units to three SIUT Dialysis centers located at; Nishtar Road, Abdullah Haroon Hospital Drigh Cantonment Area, and APWA Medical Hospital, Nazimabad.
The SIUT provides free medical treatment for kidney, liver diseases and cancers, to hundreds of thousands patients every year. It is estimated that by the end of the current year 2012, close to one million patients would have undergone treatment at SIUT.
Most of the patients treated at SIUT are predominantly from rural and low income urban strata with virtually no access to medical facilities.
Mr. Tabish Gauhar said on this occasion: “KESC considers it as its privilege to contribute to one of the largest medical institutes working in the social welfare sector in South Asia. SIUT’s free of cost health care services to innumerable deserving renal patients needs to be acknowledged through all out support by the able sections of the society."
He said Dr. Adeeb Rizvi is a remarkable example of philanthropic professional coming forward to help those who deserve it, and serves as an admirable role model for others to follow.
Dr. Rizvi in his message said: “This MOU signup initiates a new chapter in the history of SIUT, as KESC is the first corporate from the private sector to come forward as a partner in progress with SIUT. We welcome this partnership whole heartedly and we hope that going forward more corporate entities replicate KESC’s example."
He said SIUT is based on the premise that every human being has the right to get the best in healthcare free of charge and that too with dignity.
Dr Adeeb further said that against all economic odds SIUT since the last 40 years has been expanding, not only the patient’s population increase by the day but we also try to upgrade our expertise in the most sophisticated healthcare facilities and modalities.
"Our dream is to make SIUT an exemplary model institution for the world to follow and KESC now shares that dream with us," he hoped.
