ISLAMABAD: The festivity of Eid-ul-Azha, one of two major Islamic celebrations, is the best opportunity of good business for butchers and blacksmiths.

On the eve of Eid, the blacksmiths do lucrative business as the sale of their hand-made knives and choppers goes high while the people also rush for sharpening the old ones.

As the Muslims have to sacrifice animals to perform their religious obligation, the butchers remain in great demand till the third day of Eid.

The event of performing `Qurbani', a Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim (AS), is a unique way of distributing meat among the relatives, friends and poor, besides enjoying scrumptious dishes of sacrificial meat.

"Finding a butcher during Eid days is a difficult task and for this reason, most of the people prefer to sacrifice animals themselves to follow the Sunnah and avoid inconvenience," said Adnan Ahmed, a butcher at a local market.

"The days of Eid-ul-Azha are the unusual income days for us as we get sufficient business comparative to other times of the year," he said.

Shareef Hussain, a blacksmith, said that knifes of various sizes and categories such as for slaughtering animals, taking off skin and chopping meat, are prepared days before Eid.

Other utensils used for Bar B Que are another income opportunity as people arrange Bar B Que parties and family get-togethers till one week after Eid, he added.

During the Eid days, the knife sellers also roam around on bicycles to sell their products and also sharpen the old knives. (APP)
