BANNU: Two militants were killed and a police cop was martyred during a bloody encounter in Bannu district on Sunday evening, police said.

The shootout started when militants attacked a police party at Abshar Chowk in the limits of Patakhel police station, killing a Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) Constable, Arifullah Khan.

The police party and Quick Response Force squad chased the fleeing militants and overpowered them near Abshar Chowk, killing two of them during the shootout.

One of the killed militant identified as Abrahim was stated to be the nephew of the Taliban commander, Baitullah Mehsud.

Police claimed to have recovered four Kalashnikovs, four hand grenade, two pistols, two mobiles, weapons and rounds from the possession of militants. Police have started investigation.
