MEXICO CITY: A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico early Thursday, according to the US Geological Survey.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the earthquake, which struck at 3:20 am (0920 GMT) some 31 kilometers (19 miles) east of the town of Altamirano, in the southern Guerrero state.
