AHMEDABAD: India made 323 for four on first day of the first Test against England here at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera on Thursday.

After captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat, experienced opener Virender Sehwag and young batsman Cheteshwar Pujara played a key role in India’s dominating batting display despite a fine bowling performance by off-spinner Graeme Swann who captured all the four wickets fell during the day’s play.

Sehwag hit 117 --- his 23 rd Test hundred and Pujara was unbeaten on 98 and needed just two runs to complete his second Test century.

Sehwag along with Gautam Gambhir provided a sound start of 134 and then added further 90 runs with Pujara for the second wicket

Later, star batsman Sachin Tendulkar and consistent batsman Virat Kohli were cheaply dismissed for 13 and 19, respectively.

Yuvraj Singh, remained not out on 24 along with Pujara when the play ended on first day.
