Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg, in a surprising revelation, is constructing a colossal $100 million compound in Hawaii, known as Koolau Ranch, featuring an underground bunker and an array of unique structures.
The compound on Kauai Island is already partially built and is poised to become one of the most expensive personal construction projects in recent history.
According to Wired's investigation, the complex comprises over a dozen buildings, including two central mansions connected by a tunnel leading to a 5,000-square-foot underground shelter.
This bunker boasts an escape hatch equipped with living space and a mechanical room, featuring a "blast-resistant" concrete and steel door.
The property will encompass at least 30 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, guest houses, and a cluster of 11 interconnected "disk-shaped" treehouses linked by rope bridges.
Notably, Koolau Ranch is designed with security measures such as keypad-locked doors, soundproofing, a secret door in the library, and an extensive network of cameras.
The compound aims to be self-sufficient, with plans for a large water tank and pump system, complementing the existing ranching and agriculture on the expansive 1,400-acre property.
Surrounding the compound is a 6-foot wall and all workers are required to sign non-disclosure agreements.
A spokesperson for Zuckerberg emphasised that the $170 million land purchase and construction represent a family home for the Facebook founder, who views the compound as a retreat for his wife and children.
