Butt announces protest outside UN building

DALLAS: President of KaraKuram thinker's forum, Mr. Siraj Butt has announced that a protest rally will be held in front of UN head office building in New York this coming Friday December 7th at 11AM.

The protest will be staged to highlight the violence level due to foreign hidden hands and lack of attention by local authorities of Gilgit Baltistan.

In a press statement Mr. But said that people of Gilgit Baltistan has exhibited tranquility and love for each other during the month of Moharram.

People have rejected violence and have adopted peace for the society where Sunni and Shias protected each other. Sunni religious leaders walked with Shia in Shia Moharram processions to prevent any act of violence as a first line of defense for the Shia brethren.

Mr. Butt claimed that because of this act, no untoward incident took place in Gilgit Baltistan area during ten days leading to Ashura.

Meanwhile, terrorists shot and killed a Sunni scholar Ubaid ul Rahman in target killing.

He said that on one hand locals are trying to recover dead bodies from sliding and on the other hand police is harassing the grieving families. This action of local administration is fanning sectarian issues.

Mr. But said that people of Gilgit and Baltistan are living in harmony in the area for long time but some foreign elements are trying to destroy the peaceful culture of the region through violence and terrorism.

This is the reason we would like to highlight the issue in front of United Nations. He said the locals of the region are not involved in any violent act, but rather outside and foreign forces that are responsible for it.

He said people from Gilgit Baltistan living in US would protest against the injustice against people of the region. We appeal all the people of Gilgit Baltistan living in US to come and join the protest against the gross injustice.
