KARACHI: Four female anti-polio campaign workers lost their lives while two others sustained injuries as a result of shooting incidents in different parts of the city on Tuesday, Geo News reported.
Following the incidents, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Sagheer Ahmed condemned the attacks and announced the suspension of the anti-polio drive in Sindh.
According to EDO Health, Imdadullah Siddiqui the targeted shooting killed four female workers of the anti-polio campaign, including Nasima in UC-7 Orangi Town; Kaneez in UC-2 Baldia Town and; Fehmida and Madiha in UC-1 Landhi.
Earlier on Tuesday, a female worker of the anti-polio campaign was killed in Peshawar which prompted the WHO to recommend to stop the campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The 14 year old volunteer was critically wounded when she was shot and later succumbed to her injuries at the Lady Reading Hospital.
