A US president, who is famous for his antics, had looked directly at the Sun during a Solar Eclipse seven years ago.

If you’re thinking that it was Donald Trump then you’re right. The incident took place in 2017, a year after Trump took charge of America’s reins, reported Metro.

People across the US marked the ‘Great American Eclipse’, adhering to the guidelines. However, Trump did not pay heed to guidelines, which advised against staring at the sun — without the right eyewear.

The Guardian’s Ben Jacobs, who was covering the event live, wrote: “At approximately 2:39, the President initially gesticulated to the crowd below and pointed at the sky.”

“As he did so, one of the White House aides standing beneath the Blue Room Balcony shouted ‘don’t look’.”

Following the president’s dangerous stunt, social media users flooded platforms with memes.

“You can’t see your approval rating if you can’t see at all,” a user on X, then Twitter, wrote.

Sports journalist Dan Worthington wrote: “Scientists: Don’t look straight at sun during eclipse. Trump: Hold my glasses.”

Trump was not the only person who attempted this stunt.

26-year-old Nia Payne saw the Sun for around six seconds as it passed over Staten Island, New York. She now has it burnt into her retinas forever.

According to Nasa, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada on April 8, 2024.
