Oprah Winfrey just paid tribute to the late actor, Louis Gossett Jr., who passed away on March 29, 2024.
On The Oprah Winfrey Show host’s daily update page, Oprah Daily, the outlet honoured the memory of the deceased actor in a post.
The caption began with the news of his demise, stating, “Louis Gossett Jr. has passed away at the age of 87.”
“Mr. Gossett had a prolific acting career, including parts in the seminal TV miniseries Roots to last year’s The Color Purple,” the tribute read, honouring the actor’s work.
Recalling the time Gossett won the Oscar Award, the note continued, “He is also the first Black man to win a supporting actor Oscar in 1983 for his role in An Officer and a Gentleman.”
“Rest in peace, Mr. Gossett—thank you for breaking barriers for those who came after you,” the post concluded.
Louis Gossett Jr’s death was first reported by the Associate Press. The actor's nephew told the outlet of Gossett’s death on Thursday night in Santa Monica, California. No cause of death has been revealed as of yet.
