A video clip, viewed over 650,000 times, is being shared on social media alongside claims that slogans in favor of former prime minister Imran Khan were raised at a recent event in Aitchison College, Lahore.

The claim is false.

Claim

On March 10, an account posted a 31-second video on X, formerly known as Twitter, alleging that students can be seen chanting pro-Imran Khan Niazi slogans.

In the video, as per social media users, the student can be heard saying: “Niazi tere janisar beshumar beshumar (Niazi you have unlimited followers)” and “Niazi bazi le gaya (Niazi won the game).”

“Aitchison College did what it said it would do,” the user wrote, “Niazi [former prime minister Imran Khan] has won the game.”

To date, the post has been viewed over 140,000 times, reposted over 7,000 times and liked over 19,000 times.

The same text and video was shared by other X users as well.

Fact

The students were chanting slogans in favour of another student, who had been awarded a gold medal. They were not raising slogans in support of Imran Khan.

Abdullah Gilani, the student who won a gold medal that day, told Geo Fact Check over the phone that what his friends were actually saying was: “Gilani tere janisar beshumar beshumar (Gilani, you have unlimited followers)” and “Gilani bazi le gaya (Gilani you have won the game).”

He added that to some people it may have seemed that the students were chanting “Niazi” instead of “Gilani”, which is why false claims were spreading on social media.
