France is all set to host the Paris Olympics 2024 with thousands of sportspeople scheduled to meet each other in the capital city for the biggest-ever Summer Games in July.

To mark the start of the event, the flame in the Greek city was also lit on Monday in the Temple of Hera, Olympia.

According to the organisers, they are expecting full stadiums and a glamorous opening ceremony in the heart of the city along its main artery: the Seine River.

The flame was lit by actresses in the attire of priestesses at the birthplace of the ancient Olympics and will start in a relay to light the cauldron, marking the commencement of the Games.

The earliest games recorded in history were in 776 BC.

In the ancient Olympia, the flame was considered to burn continuously on a shrine, showing the eternal spirit of the Games.

Initially, the first relay is a 5,000-kilometre path across Greece that will take more than 11 days, with over 600 torchbearers from star athletes and other members of the masses.

It will end at Panathenaic Stadium in Athens where the flame will be handed over to the Paris Olympic organisers.

The flame will leave for Marseille on board a three-masted ship, the "Belem", where around 150,000 people are expecting it.

It is anticipated to arrive in France on May 8, kickstarting the second round of the relay. It will continuously burn until the closing ceremony.
