Michael Douglas dishes on cons of being a parent in his 70s

Michael Douglas reflected on being a parent later in life after marrying wife Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2000.

The American film producer is overjoyed to become a parent of two at a later age in life, however, he also revealed that it comes with a disadvantage.

“This is not grandfather’s day, this is Parents’ Day”, Douglas shared with The Telegraph on being mistaken at children’s university, “I say ‘I am a parent!’. That was a rough one.”

Referring to his life with Zeta-Jonesas a ‘good ride’, the 79-year-old producer also expressed gratitude for his children as he mentioned, “I have to thank my kids, Dylan and Carys. They’re just extraordinary beings... [We] had a lovely, lovely life together.”

“They brought both Catherine and I, just a tremendous amount of joy”, he added.

Nonetheless, the Oscar-winning actor was also admitted that his oldest son Cameron, whom he shares with ex-wife Diandra Luker, suffered during childhood due to Douglas’ work commitments.

“Cameron suffered a lot from that time . . . I was just overwhelmed and overloaded by my work.”

Explaining why becoming an older parent has helped him become a better father, the Basic Instinct actor shared, “You’ve done enough work already that you were looking more to enjoy the opportunity and the kids”.
