New Year celebrations kick off in Auckland

AUCKLAND: New Zealand became the first country to welcome the 2013 with a spectacular fireworks display.

Residents of capital Auckland packed the city centre to watch the annual event at the city’s Sky Tower.

Following New Zealand, the New Year will next be celebrated in Australia.
