Zendaya talks playing Black Woman in upcoming movie

Zendaya recently weighed in on playing the role of a woman of colour in new movie, Challengers.

As fans will know, Tom Holland’s girlfriend plays the character Tashi Duncan, who is entangled in a strange love triangle between her former beau and husband, in upcoming flick, which is slated to be released on April 26, 2024.

The acting sensation lately sat down for a confessional with Variety Magazine and weighed in on her character, who is also a tennis coach.

When asked about how she felt about playing a Black woman in this flick, the actress shared, “It’s more exclusive to Tashi. I don’t know if I necessarily personally connected.”

She added, “But I do know, being the kind of woman that she is, it would be difficult to be reduced and never called anything else but his wife.”

Zendaya explained, “She’s his coach, and she’s constantly reminding people of that. In the words of Beyoncé, don’t get it twisted, right? That’s true of a lot of women in power.”

Wrapping up the topic, she remarked, “Especially Black women in power.”
