Selena Gomez recently talked about her return to Instagram after four-year hiatus.

As per Elle report, Gomez, who was panelist at TIME100 Summit in New York City on Wednesday, revealed that she 'took four years off of Instagram' and let her post during those years.

The Love On hitmaker said, "I felt like it was the most rewarding gift I gave myself. I think people, especially young kids, it’s—you’re sitting there so focused on what looks wonderful when everything that’s meant to be wonderful to you is not from here."

Gomez further added about the impact it had on her mental health, saying, "I was more present. I was happier. I would actually get real phone calls [from] people telling me about their story, and I could actually hear it instead of going, ‘Oh, I already know what you did today.’ It’s more human."

Since her return to personally managing her Instagram, the Who Says singer noted a shift in her online interactions, particularly in how she defends the people she cares about.

"I just—I find it frustrating and then I get a little mouthy, and I wanna defend people I love," Gomez said.

Her comments usually garnered media attention, especially when she has spoken out in defense of friends like Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Benny Blanco.

The Wolves crooner acknowledged the importance of taking breaks, stating, "it’s important to take breaks. So I try to—I don’t really pay much attention. I’ll just do things here and there."
