Ellen DeGeneres has finally broken her silence over the controversial ending of her beloved daytime show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The television host kicked off her stand-up comedy tour on April 24, branding it as the last show before concluding it for good.

The show initially wrapped up in May 2022 following a Buzzfeed report detailing allegations of racism, sexual misconduct and intimidation followed by an apology from the TV host.

However, Ellen seemingly hasn’t moved on from the abrupt ending of The Ellen DeGeneres show and decided to deliver a conclusion that isn’t marred by public’s negative perception of her as she noted, “I just hated the way the show ended”.

“I love that show so much and I just hated that the last time people would see me is that way”.

Nonetheless, the 66-year-old turned to humour when addressing the ‘hurtful’ past, recalling that she was “kicked out of show business” for being ‘mean’ and admitted to becoming the “persona non grata”.

“The 'be kind' girl wasn't kind. That was the headline”, she recounted the news headlines at the time, referring to the show’s closing remark.

“I became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps”.

The Louisiana native also reflected on the ‘extremes’ of this business where people either ‘idolize’ you or “they hate you, and those people somehow are louder”.

“Honestly, I’m making jokes about what happened to me, but it was devastating, really”, she confessed, “It was hurtful”.
